JW Anderson: Ready-To-Wear SS20

The JW Anderson world is full of unlikely collisions. How about a front row featuring Christina Aguilera in full diva mode next to pocket-sized action heroine Maisie Williams. Jonathan Anderson clearly curates his guest list like he curates his collections. Things you can’t imagine working next to each other are actually rather fabulous. This collection was full of strange adjacencies. The first look was a lean fluted maxi dress which came with crystal bust harness and a thick rope of crystals slung around the hips the same way an urban cyclist wears a heavy chain lock. This was bling but not as you know it. How to make a black trouser suit sing? Pair it with a silver lamé cape and a smart black handbag covered in macrame. Suiting got an update with exaggerated hourglass jackets dripping with silk ribbons.

The models picked their way through an installation of ephemera by the Canadian artist Liz Magor. Her artfully placed plastic boxes filled with toys, tights and personal ephemera. The story of this collection was a collision of crafty naivety and utter sophistication. It was JW to the core.
