‘He made it look easy’ would be the best way to describe J.W. Anderson’s debut outing at Loewe. We’re not just talking in terms of the resounding success it’s been hailed- as he’s managed to tread just the right line between a respect for the houses history, and a need to create something fundamentally modern- that’s somehow still within his own visual language. We’re also talking about the clothes themselves. There was a resounding effort towards softness in this collection- making amazing use of the beautifully supple leathers the house is known for. In fact, Anderson managed a lightness with the material, adding a commercially viable element within the fact these items will be fought over wildly for editorial call-ins. Punctuating the ease there was also a measured hardness, as judo style belts jutted out from the body, and robust, more traditional looking bags were carried by models sides. The collections palette was treated similarly, with a focus on earthier tones broken suddenly by searing brights. We can only apologise for the delay in posting this, but if you hadn’t heard-select pieces from this collection were made available at stores within hours of it’s showing. We’re not kidding- we’ve a beautifully wrapped little present from ourselves to ourselves, waiting back at the hotel. Ok, maybe more than one.
