Louis Vuitton: Pre-Fall 2019
Is this a magazine editorial titled “The brightest stars of Hollywood” or is it Louis Vuitton’s Pre-Fall 2019 lookbook? Based on the pool of talent – it could go either way. Luckily, there are all the recognisably futuristic designs by Nicholas Ghesquière that give it away. With a star-studded cast of 17 outstanding women from all around the globe, this lookbook is something only he could pull off. “These women embrace the various personalities that embody fashion at Louis Vuitton. Be they stars or new faces, all of them share the same willpower, and confidence in their choices, and at the same time, reflect the eclecticism of the female identity,” Ghesquière says in his notes. Everyone from his long-time friends Jennifer Connelly and Michelle Williams to new brand favourites like Indya Moore, Kelela and Sophie Turner – they all embody the extreme modernity that’s at the core of the brand.
But beyond the stellar faces, it’s the clothes that stand out too. A visual continuation of the brand’s stellar SS19 show, the Pre-Fall 2019 collection seems like a slightly more streamlined interpretation of the space-y storyline. The play of volume and off-beat silhouettes are still here, now tailored for the everyday world. And despite 17 stars in the cast, the spotlight is on the accessories – the UFO bag (first seen in the SS19 show), the chunky-heeled boots, statement belts and oversized jewellery. It’s the armour against the bleak world of reality, infused by other-worldly beauty. LV Pre-Fall 2019 is the answer to all your life dilemmas.
