Off-White: Ready-to-wear AW17
Nothing says autumn winter and the winds of change quite like a leafy strewn catwalk and some bare branches suspended. Sets the mood. Focuses the mind. And so it was that the lopped (trees) had a rhythm with cropped (jackets, hoodies). It was all about that power crop worn back with the signature Off-White denim but also with some fluid bias cut dresses. Surprising? No as Virgil Abloh is aiming high, elevating his streetwear to some where a bit more posh. Polished. But still with that raw edge he has. Hoodie – want that. Cut just right. A fur chubby. Ruffles of blue silk chiffon, controlled, just enough to be ironically bourgeoisie. Jolie Mademoiselle indeed. And so the boots were “For Walking” emblazoned up the sides, yes yes he likes to have fun with words. And so there were spoken words by the artist David Shrigley at the beginning. “Focus on the work, the project… and finished artwork and focus on that…” The “work” pink/nude slip/petticoat was divine to wear to dance, to chill, to just be. Silver. And then a flash lit finale. Virgil is also finding his way and we are so happy to be part of his journey – he has a great approach to design and life, a lovely philosophy that resonates with his friends and customers. And so the final word must be ker-ching.
