Paul Smith: Ready-to-wear SS17
Paul Smith SS17 was a floral cornucopia. Literally. There were flowers sprouting from the floor, over dresses, liberally sprinkled over suiting. In every form imaginable. Woven into wide stripes on tailored jackets, painted over louche suiting, embroidered across feminine tea dresses, printed in bursts on silk bombers. Sir Paul was apparently inspired by the recent Hilma Af Klimt at the Serpentine, and it’s true that the florals and colour palette, dusty in tone, were reminiscent of her work. This had a certain lady painter of a bygone era about it, which contrasted nicely with the more languid masculine elements Sir Paul is so well known for.
