We’re calling this “penthouse” dressing. As in, clothing one would wear were they to own a New York, or other such city, top floor apartment, a plush abode crammed with art and large leather chairs and cowskin rugs. “Oh, this old place,” one would say as commoners marvelled at the casual view across the city. Because where else would the Polo Ralph Lauren lady reside than at the very top? That’s who she is. A woman of fine breeding. Country tweeds, the “je ne sais quoi” of a cashmere sweater, an LBD up her sleeve. Just in case. In Mr Lauren’s words – “she’s a little more upscale. She’s not a caricature.” Let’s call her a modern day gentlewoman. Stinking rich and gorgeous.
