Prada: Ready-to-wear AW16
Miuccia Prada arranged her set into a square – where ceremonies take place, where people come together. We all huddle there eagerly anticipating her next move, her latest collection. Which this time was about the history of women, said she backstage, after her winter show. That show contained a multitude of feminine guise, corsets tugged in against the body over dresses and jackets, pea coats slipping seductively off to expose flesh, coats belted or left loose, heels high and low, women bedecked with fur and brocade and fragments of clothes. Lots of accessories too, metal swirled heels and belts studded with metallic roses, and a brass-bound bag that reminds you a little of a priceless middle-ages tract. That’s on sale straight away, in case you’re chomping at the bit for s bit of Prada. Oh and, of course, they almost all wore sailor hats. There’s not great sociological explanation: Mrs P just thought they looked sexy. We do too.
