Proenza Schouler: Ready-to-wear AW16
Proenza Schouler showed at the Whitney Museum for the second time this season – last winter, they closed down the old Whitney uptown; for autumn/winter 2016, they sort of inaugurated the new downtown one. If you were hoping for Whitney Houston tributes (I was) you’d be disappointed – their show was about process art, like the stuff Frank Stella does, meaning they “processed” their garments by printing the actual thing rather than the cloth, leaving intentional faults. Other dresses were chopped open and laced back together. That, said Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez (the boys behind ProScho) was about Control. Not the Janet Jackson track, but the corsety kind of stuff. We’ll have to control ourselves not to blow our bank balance on the lot.
