Proenza Schouler: Ready-to-wear SS17

Proenza Schouler was about handkerchiefs. As in, not the ones you blow your nose on, but handkerchief-hemmed dresses. And skirts. A fact that demonstrated that yes, the Schouler boys really are quite the magicians when it comes to fabric. Because this was elegant. Sort of sexy too. Bouncy. Also on the sexy front, quite literally, were the cut-outs on the model’s chests, including one particularly racy number in the shape of a heart. Little bows across the front of dresses that revealed the skin beneath. Like sensual origami. But there was plenty more to look at too – this was a rich offering – sprays of ostrich feathers at the bottom of dresses, tight pleats, block-colour stripes on the intarsia knits. And it was that colour that was actually at the heart of the collection – bold, Crayola-style colour, finding place in the kind of Masaai-esque prints or used in contrast to clean black and white. This was an energetic, exciting outing for the Proenza boys. And we’re pretty much ready to snatch every single piece we can get out hands on. Need it all now. Or sooner. Hopefully no-one checks our bags on the way out…
