Proenza Schouler Support Planned Parenthood With New Film

Find above Proenza Schouler’s third video project with London-born photographer Harley Weir. And this one is important. Entitled “A Film for Planned Parenthood of New York City,” it features a diverse group of women – from Amber Valletta to Grimes, Hari Nef to Stella Tennant – sharing intimate revelations about womanhood as a call to action in support of Planned Parenthood. That organisation, which supports women’s reproductive rights and sexual health support in the USA, has been threatened by Donald Trump’s administration, who has begun moves to cut its federal funding.

The Proenza boys were inspired by the Women’s Marches that took place across the world earlier this year. “The spirit of protest, of taking a stand for what you believe in, was deeply touching on both personal and creative levels. It was the seed that later informed our Fall/Winter collection, and in that same spirit, we decided to forgo a traditional fashion campaign when developing a creative project around the collection,” Lazaro Hernandez told Vogue. “We wanted to focus instead on what we and the women around us felt was of the utmost importance: standing up for the fundamental rights that organizations like Planned Parenthood defend every day.”

To do so, they assembled a cast of women that represented all walks of life – sex educators, models, musicians, friends – all of whom grapple with the complicated notion of modern femininity in the visually arresting, and very personal, short.

Those who wish to support the cause can go to www.ppnyc.org to learn how to support Planned Parenthood of New York City, or www.plannedparenthood.org to campaign on behalf of Planned Parenthood nationwide.
