Kate and Laura Mulleavy of Rodarte are, quietly, some of the coolest designers in New York. Kirsten Dunst was in the audience for their winter show – she pretty much always is, and is apparently starring in a movie the duo are currently filming out in California, where they live ad work. At least, they mostly work there, exporting their stuff twice a year to show us via the less off-the-beaten-track locale (fashion wise) of New York. What did they bring over from suburban Pasedena this time round? Tattered corpse brides in white, black and red tulle, giant ragged fur coats, a great way with a leather ruffle, a masterful mix of texture and shape, meandering around a flower-strewn light installation. It was cinematic, almost other-worldly. Hope their debut feature looks something like it, when it comes to a (no doubt art-house) cinema new you soon.
